An Oyata Te School
in Kansas City, Missouri

This is a Life Protection Arts School that descended from the teachings of Taika Seiyu Oyata. He did not call his art a 'Martial Art' as he believed what he taught was not about war, but saving the lives of yourself, family and friends. The instructors/owners of the school trained with Taika for 24-34 years respectively, till the time of his death in 2012. We stay true to the teachings and philosophies of Taika Seiyu Oyata, continuing to carry the torch as he gave it to us.

On August 31, 2010, Taika honored me by naming my school RyuShinKan. Ryu is short for Ryukyu, as in "the Ryukyu Kingdom" and the first character of his art. Shin is heart or soul. Kan is simply school. So he gave the school the name meaning "The Soul of RyuKyu". This was a great and unexpected honor. The school is still hosted at this site, and still considered a 'Research Club' (Kenshūkai).
